How has Ann made a difference in marketing Northwestern Wisconsin Technical College (NWTC)? Ann was the driving force behind NWTC’s first-ever editorial style guide, which established a unified and authentic voice for the college. She continues to update and refine the guide to ensure NWTC’s communications remain relevant, inclusive and aligned with evolving student expectations. Ann also served as the primary writer for NWTC’s application for the Aspen Prize, a national recognition that placed the college, which was a finalist for the award, among the most outstanding community colleges in the country. Her ability to craft a narrative that captured NWTC’s student success outcomes, institutional strengths and community impact was instrumental in earning this prestigious honor.
How has Ann demonstrated leadership and management ability? Ann served as project manager for NWTC’s customer relationship management system launch. Over the course of a year, she led the communication strategy, ensuring the transition was seamless and all stakeholders were informed and supported. Her attention to detail, ability to simplify complex information, and collaborative approach earned her recognition as an indispensable leader on the project.
How has Ann worked to advance higher ed marcom as a whole? From her early days in media relations to her current role as senior content writer, Ann has centered her work on making messaging clear, consistent and student-focused. She often cites her mentor Ann Wylie’s maxim: “If you confuse, you lose,” a philosophy she instills in colleagues across the college. Ann has organized and facilitated professional development for NWTC’s marketing team, including a recent college-wide communication-style training that strengthened external, internal and interpersonal communication skills.
Ann Malvitz is the senior writer and editor in NWTC’s Marketing, Communication, and Legislative Advocacy Department. She has served the college for more than 25 years in several communication roles, working to amplify NWTC’s messages and craft stories that inspire individuals from all backgrounds and circumstances to pursue their college and career goals. She thrives on transforming complex academic and institutional information into clear, actionable content that helps students move forward to graduation and beyond.
