2023 District 3 Rising Star

2023 District 3 Rising Star

Eric Jacobson
Public Affairs Specialist
Western Technical College
La Crosse, WI

Eric Jacobson joined Western Technical College in La Crosse, Wisconsin, in 2017 as the marketing and communications assistant. He quickly took over the reins of the college’s public relations and social media work, and he was promoted to PR specialist in less than a year. During the time he’s held the position, Jacobson has secured media coverage in Western’s district that is equivalent to one story per day each year. One of his stories was even picked up by the Associated Press and shared across the country.

He successfully implemented a robust social media strategy for the college, expanding Western’s presence across various platforms and consistently delivering engaging and relevant content. Jacobson’s efforts have attracted a larger following and fostered a sense of community among current and prospective students.

In 2022, Jacobson also took over legislative advocacy work at the college, working with the college’s senior leadership team and legislators at the local and national levels. In just the past several months, he has organized Western’s participation in the ACCT Legislative Summit and developed college responses to national issues.

Jacobson consistently takes initiative, seeking out new opportunities and going above and beyond assigned responsibilities. His drive to excel motivates him to constantly seek growth and improvement in his professional endeavors, and he is currently enrolled in NCMPR’s Leadership Institute.

Prior to his time at Western, Jacobson spent two years at a local TV station as a reporter, covering politics, natural disasters and investigative work into water quality in the region.
