The language around equity, inclusion, and diversity has shifted in recent years, but the work hasn't. Across the country, community college communicators are navigating a political environment where the words we use can determine whether programs survive, thrive or get targeted. Whether you're in a state where certain language has become legally or politically untenable or in a region where your institution is doubling down on its diversity-centered marketing, one thing is clear: Your messaging strategy needs to make your students feel seen and supported without alienating policymakers, business leaders, donors, and your community.

This special webinar brings together research-based guidance with peer wisdom to help you communicate your institution's values with confidence, clarity, and staying power.

You'll leave with:

  • Reframing strategies you can apply immediately
  • Language alternatives grounded in mission and student success
  • A peer network that understands the specific pressures of this moment

In the first half, learn best practices for reframing the words we use — how to shift terminology without abandoning the principles behind it, how to center student outcomes and institutional mission, and how to build messaging that resonates across diverse political contexts.

In the second half, you'll move into facilitated breakout rooms for honest, peer-to-peer conversation. This is your space to share what's working, ask what you've been afraid to ask publicly, and leave with strategies from colleagues who are navigating the same terrain.

Presented by members of the NCMPR DEI Strategic Committee,  these professionals bring a range of perspectives and experiences from community and technical colleges across the country to facilitate discussion and share practical insights.
