Despite her brief time in the communications department at Cleveland State Community College, Andrea Byerly has proactively sought to expand her knowledge in the field of communications. She continuously researches current technological trends and seeks ways to enhance the college’s processes.
Under her leadership, the college’s approach to storytelling and public relations has evolved positively. She has overhauled the college’s social media guidelines, incorporating new goals and engaging content, such as short video testimonials from students. This has significantly increased Cleveland State’s social media following across all platforms. She’s shifted from traditional press releases, allowing faculty, staff, students and alumni to share their perspectives and paint a more authentic picture of Cleveland State. She also created a quarterly newsletter highlighting students, programs, faculty and staff for the new president, expanding the newsletter’s reach to include local public officials and community leaders.
Byerly’s expertise in crisis communication has been invaluable to the college. Her calm demeanor and professionalism under pressure are rare qualities, making her an asset to her team. She is punctual and reliable, with a strong work ethic.
