Dr. Jay Carraway is proud of James Sprunt Community College (JSCC) and the resources it brings to the table, eager to ensure that it is both represented at events across the state and nationally and that staff have resources to benefit them personally and schoolwide.
This priority is seen in JSCC’s involvement in the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools’ accreditation; building the Centro Educativo Latino, a center for Latino students; and participating in conferences provided by the college’s system office. Dr. Carraway also serves as an adviser for the NC Community College System Workforce and Continuing Education Senior Administrators Leadership Team.
JSCC is one of two Hispanic-serving institutions in North Carolina, and Dr. Carraway spent two weeks in Mexico last fall as part of the “Go Global” initiative, immersing himself into the Hispanic educational system to better equip JSCC in addressing the needs of its growing Hispanic population.
Dr. Carraway cares deeply about the image of the college. He prioritizes being a good representative of professionalism to the community and ensures his employees understand and support this message, too. He provides regular professional development opportunities to faculty and staff members to equip them to promote the brand of JSCC carefully and accurately. Dr. Carraway also hosts regular faculty and staff forums, providing the campus with opportunities to ask questions, raise grievances and be given an overview of specific ongoing and upcoming activities on campus.
