2023 District 1 Pacesetter

Dr. Barbara Gaba
President
Atlantic Cape Community College
Mays Landing, NJ

Dr. Barbara Gaba was appointed the ninth president of Atlantic Cape Community College in January 2017, becoming the first female and first African American president in the college’s 50-year history. With extensive experience in higher education, she is deeply committed to the mission of the community college to provide affordable educational pathways for student success.

Since assuming office, Dr. Gaba’s accomplishments include improved campus technology infrastructure and facilities upgrades, such as the Innovation Center at the Mays Landing Campus and Wind Training Center in Atlantic City; rebranding; enhanced marketing initiatives; revitalized community engagement projects; increased high school partnerships, including articulations, dual enrollment, and “Early College” programs; and partnerships with various entities to advance economic development in the region.

Thanks to her leadership, the college was named a 2022 Leader College by Achieving the Dream for its dedication toward advancing equity to ensure all students succeed; and Atlantic Cape received the designation of Hispanic-serving institution during the 2020-21 school year, when the college achieved at least 25% full-time Hispanic student enrollment.

Dr. Gaba proudly speaks on behalf of the college, its students and its employees. She addresses community organizations on the positive role the college plays across Atlantic and Cape May counties, speaking at stakeholder meetings, ribbon cutting ceremonies, student government events and more. Dr. Gaba supports the marketing and college relations department by encouraging creativity and a constant flow of new ideas to keep the college’s message relevant and fresh throughout the college and surrounding communities.
