What NCMPR means to me....

My first NCMPR conference was in San Diego, Calif. I went to this conference so excited to be part of an organization that was focused on what I do for a living. I was also apprehensive, as I attended this conference alone and knew no one. I entered the facility and was immediately greeted by Shirley Medbery, an NCMPR staff member, who is one of the sweetest people I have ever met. Since then, I have met so many people through NCMPR. I joined the planning committee for the 2006 District 3 conference in Grand Rapids, Mich. I learned so much from Karen Visser and company and thoroughly enjoyed the process. I was also on the planning committee for the 2011 District 3 conference in Detroit, Mich. Mae Hanna, the District 3 director at that time, encouraged me to run for the position. I did, and lo and behold, I was voted in. I enjoyed the experience as District 3 director so much and worked with so many people I never would have had the opportunity to meet. Now I serve as treasurer on the Executive Committee of the NCMPR board. I continue to learn, and I can’t express how lucky and grateful I am to have this experience. It truly does enhance my ability to do my job at Oakland Community College. Thanks so much NCMPR and all those who are involved! This organization is absolutely invaluable.
