How has Dr. Corr made a difference in advancing Arizona Western College (AWC) and the community? Since becoming AWC’s ninth president in 2016, Dr. Corr has twice launched ambitious strategic plans, setting a bold institutional direction aimed at doubling the district’s baccalaureate attainment rate by 2035. Over the last four years, the total number of new transfer students from AWC to state universities has increased 14%; during the same period, the state-wide rate is down a combined 22% across 19 colleges. Dr. Corr cultivates a college-going culture with special tuition and rapid dual-credit course creation. These practices provide radically increased access, dynamic outreach and substantial discounts to high school students, nearly 70% of whom are first-generation students.
How has Dr. Corr advanced the community college mission outside the AWC community? Dr. Corr was appointed to the Arizona State Board of Education under former Gov. Doug Ducey’s leadership and has now served nearly 8 ½ years, including several terms in executive leadership. Internationally, Dr. Corr has represented AWC and the community college sector at global forums, sharing the story of industry-college partnerships with colleagues around the world. He represented community colleges at the prestigious Triple E Awards when AWC was twice honored as a finalist for university or college of the year.
How has Dr. Corr’s understanding of marcom help AWC? Dr. Corr is dedicated to transparency, inclusivity and authentic storytelling. He never misses a chance to sport the college’s new colors or appear with the mascot and athletic teams to showcase AWC’s new brand. He stars in “The Corr Report,” a video series designed to inform and connect with employees and students. His natural charisma reflects the authentic and transparent storytelling the college is known for.
