Reporting to the Vice President Corporate, the Director, Marketing and Communications provides leadership in the provision of marketing and communications services with particular emphasis on effective alignment with all aspects of the RDC brand. The next few years will see significant change at RDC as we evolve to University Status. This role is vital to the strategic foresight, future proofing and operationalizing of change at RDC. This role is both the functional leader for the Marketing and Communications Department and a leader on the institutions senior executive and as such is active in the strategic planning and operations of the institution.

Major responsibilities of the Director, Marketing & Communications include:
• Strategic planning for the Department and College overall with regular testing and evolving of the strategic plans
• Operational planning for the Department and of the department for the institution
• Implementing marketing, communications and branding strategies that will most effectively position the College in Central Alberta and in the Alberta post-secondary environment as a “post-secondary institution of choice”
• Client communication and support in the ongoing prioritization of new and existing projects
• Development, support and supervision of staff in meeting the needs of their specific clients and the College in general
• Providing financial leadership for the division including preparation and monitoring of the annual budgets
• Hiring an experienced, talented and sound team that can support and advance the fast-paced marketing and communications needs of the College

Job Duties
This leadership position is responsible for developing and implementing a division strategy and subsequent operating action plans for increased awareness of RDC – for both prospective students and the community as well as our industry partners; increased probability of enrollment, student recruitment inquires; and brand management through an integrated marketing and communications approach; utilizing and leveraging multiple channels including digital and traditional. The position works collaboratively with the department Coordinators to ensure the marketing and communications strategies developed for RDC help to advance overall institutional efforts. The Director will develop and implement a strategy for establishing local, provincial and national exposure for RDC, in alignment with the brand image, consistent key messaging and the College’s strategic plan and approved activities. The Director will act as an expert resource leader to schools and departments and lead a team in charge of all aspects of marketing and communications:
• Corporate Communications (internal communications; media relations – media releases, media conferences; crisis communications)
• Marketing (brand development, fortification and maintenance; custom promotional campaigns highlighting RDC, programs and Schools; digital signage; promotional video)
• Communications (website ; the Loop (internal portal); social media; storytelling – digital, traditional and video) Education: •Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Business or a related field

Experience:
• 10-15 years of experience in Marketing and Communications, with the most recent 5 years in a management role leading a team in a large, complex organization
• Demonstrated experience effectively initiating and executing large-scale projects and marketing and communications campaigns aimed at various target audiences
• Demonstrated success working with vendors; experience in visual design and production and project management; and experience in producing a variety of communication vehicles aimed at various internal and external audiences
• Experience operating in digital environments; web development; social media
