2021 District 6 Communicator

Andrea Hanstein
Director of Communications and Strategic Partnerships
CCC California Virtual Campus
Los Altos Hills, CA

The California Virtual Campus (CVC) serves a range of populations, including students on various platforms, faculty and a consortium of 71 colleges. As the initiative’s scope has grown, Andrea Hanstein has been instrumental in analyzing the needs of each audience and crafting overall marketing strategies for their specific needs.

She works with a creative team that designs and deploys digital and print marketing campaigns that consistently perform above industry average. By reinforcing CVC’s values, she serves various audiences and creates relationships, building trust in the organizational brand. Hanstein’s contributions have been critical in the consortium’s growth from 24 member colleges to its current high of 71 colleges. Hanstein works tirelessly with a small team to serve a large mission. Her ability to lead, contribute and support that mission has made a significant difference.

A creative and energetic leader, Hanstein was instrumental in creating the College Success Team, which serves as a single point of inquiry or information for students, faculty and staff. Previously, those audiences struggled with connecting to the right staff member to answer their questions. The team has grown to include a model to support college technical and programmatic staff with a non-technical but action-oriented success manager. The effort has made students, faculty and staff more confident that they can better, easily find the information or assistance they need.

In her heart, Hanstein is an educator who regularly reinforces the need for well-crafted and well-executed communications and marketing strategies.

“She exemplifies the best of this profession and, when necessary, is prepared to offer hard truths to leadership, peers or subordinates,” writes Jory Hadsell, with the California Virtual Campus and Hanstein’s nominator. “Andrea exemplifies the high standards of integrity, professionalism, creative energy and organizational loyalty that advance the profession.”
