2021 District 1 Communicator

Eve Markman
Executive Director of Creative Services
Community College of Philadelphia
Philadelphia, PA

During her nearly 28-year career at Community College of Philadelphia, Eve Markman has made a huge impact on marketing the college by working in coalition with internal and external partners, striving for the best results and including her team every step of the way. As the executive director of creative services, Markman has grown her department over the years, incorporating additional skilled graphic designers and adding videography into job descriptions to competitively market the college as the only public, two-year college in an area with 80 other higher education institutions.

Always approaching projects, meetings and brainstorming sessions with enthusiasm and ideas, Markman welcomes all opinions and involves the clients and her staff in the decision-making process. She helps colleagues understand how to effectively communicate their message and reach their target audience, explaining how design and images can best deliver results.

Markman constantly questions how something can be improved, whether it’s a finding a more specific mailing list to reach an intended audience with print materials, creating ads to meet client and marketing expectations, or designing a piece that best incorporates copy and a call to action. She is always available and excited to talk through processes and ideas with her staff, and she knows how to inspire creativity, innovation and excellence. Markman trusts her team and encourages members to learn, develop and share new skills.

On campus, Markman is known for her reliability and good ideas. She proposed and led the effort to write, illustrate and print a children’s book to help readers learn about career opportunities. She coordinated volunteers, including the college’s president, to read to kindergarten classes, and all kids received a copy of the book. The college later published a version in Spanish.

“Eve is a dedicated member, leader and collaborator,” writes Nikki Sarpolis, the college’s digital editor/writer, in Markman’s nomination. “She realizes that success involves building relationships and communicating regularly about goals, expectations and projects.”
